The Virginia Edwards Community Center

We here at the Benton Harbor Housing Commission/Virginia Edwards Community center have come together to try and build a place where parents can bring their children and know that they will be in a safe environment. Parents and children themselves can rest assure that there will be someone at the center to always guide, inspire, motivate, strengthen, teach, educate, and direct our youth in the right direction. Since being apart of the family we have partnered with different organization such as Socrates Mentor and Tutoring, Andrews University Computer Training Program, Band of Brethren, Michigan Works, Connect Up (CPC) Fall Grant Program, YMCA Achievers Program, Curious Kids Museum and the Benton Harbor Middle Schools, Hull and Fairplain.

The Facility contains a state of the art gym, a computer lab, a spacious community room with up to date kitchen appliances and a state of the art Recording Studio.

On the following pages you will see the glimpse of the activities going on at the Virginia Edwards Community Center. The Community Center is available by contract for social activities.

“I’m Saving Myself” has been doing activities in the community center now for a total of fifteen weeks, and has really been a good instructional program for the children. There’s much singing and dancing, the children are really having a great time. Some of the children have had a chance to learn songs play different instruments and even had a chance to go into our recording studio and make their own compact discs. All of the children were given the opportunity to listen as they did the recording.
Children having a nice time when the Curious Kinds Museum comes over to the Virginia Edwards Community Center. The children had a chance to come to the center as part of our back to school program. The children got the chance to speak with a Police Officer and to view and listen to the tiger car.
Tae Kown Do is another activity that we are proud of here at the Virginia Edwards Community Center. These are students testing for the next belt level.
